Community invited to 100-day party for Special Olympics Canada Summer Games in Medicine Hat
MEDICINE HAT – Medicine Hat is having a party to commemorate the Special Olympics Canada Summer Games being only 100 days away.
The entire community is invited to the free Saturday, May 2 event at the Medicine Hat Stampede Grounds, which will feature a concert band, athlete ambassadors and organizers, food, and mini-games to get into the spirit. May 2 is 100 days prior to the Games’ opening ceremonies, set for Aug. 11. More than 1,700 participants from across the county will compete in 10 sports during the Aug. 11-15 Games.
“The excitement is building, and We Shine Together,” says Games manager Kara Brake. “We want to see as many people from Medicine Hat and beyond at the 100-day party, whether they’re signing up to be volunteers, are involved with Special Olympics already, or just want to show support for this massive undertaking.”
“It’s going to be a blast,” adds athlete ambassador Karris George. “Come say hi and learn more about the Special Olympics Canada Summer Games!”
Special Olympics athletes will have a special VIP section for the 2 p.m. kickoff event – any athlete who wants to come to Medicine Hat for the event can let Games staff know when they arrive and get access.
Staff will also be on hand to assist with volunteer registrations and answer any questions.
No advance registration is required for the 100-day party – just come and enjoy! The on-stage program will wrap up around 3 p.m. but the event will continue with mini games, food, and more until 5 p.m. at Stampede Grounds (2055 21 Ave. SE).
