LAND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT Medicine Hat is located on the traditional territories of the peoples of Treaty 7 and Treaty 4, and within the homeland of the Métis Nation of Alberta, Region 3.

Theis land and waterways have long been home to the Blackfoot Confederacy, including the Kainai, Piikani, and Siksika Nations, as well as the Tsuu T’ina Nation, the Stoney Nakoda Nations, and the Cree, Sioux and the Saulteaux bands of the Ojibwa peoples Nation, the Stoney Nakoda Nations, and the Cree, Sioux and the Saulteaux bands of the Ojibwa peoples.

As we welcome athletes, families, and supporters from across the country for the Special Olympics Canada Summer Games , we honour the Indigenous peoples from coast to coast to coast who have cared for these lands for generations. We are grateful to gather here in the spirit of sport, inclusion, and community, and we recognize our shared responsibility to hold good relations with the local Indigenous Peoples who continue to fight for their rights as sovereign Nations

Ces terres et ces cours d’eau sont depuis longtemps le foyer de la Confédération des Pieds-Noirs, y compris les nations Kainai, Piikani et Siksika, ainsi que la nation Tsuu T’ina, les nations Stoney Nakoda, et les bandes Cries, Sioux et Saulteaux du peuple Ojibwé.

Alors que nous accueillons les athlètes, les familles et les partisans de partout au pays pour les Jeux d’été d’Olympiques Canada, nous rendons hommage aux peuples utochtones d'un bout à l'autre du pays qui ont pris soin de ces terres pendant des générations. Nous sommes reconnaissants de nous réunir ici dans un esprit de sport, d'inclusion et de communauté, et nous reconnaissons notre responsabilité commune d'entretenir de bonnes relations avec les peuples autochtones locaux qui continuent de lutter pour leurs droits en tant que nations souveraines.
