Quebec confidence shines on the track
Competing on Medicine Hat’s Rotary Track, Maude Davignon has represented Quebec this week at the Special Olympics Canada Summer Games Medicine Hat 2026.
Davignon is competing well across several disciplines in athletics, and will bring multiple medals home to Saint-Jean.
“It’s my first national Games, and I beat my records that I set last year in Granby,” said Davignon. “It’s a great atmosphere. I’d never traveled before, and this lets me make friends and give it my all.”
While it’s her first time competing at a Special Olympics Canada Summer Games, Davignon has registered in Special Olympics programming for several years, which she credits for giving her a lot of confidence.
“It has let me stop being embarrassed, because I used to be very shy in my life,” said Davignon. “I’m now making friends, finding out about new sports, and competing. I’m less and less shy. If you had seen me, I would do this – hiding my eyes – but I don’t do that anymore.”
Davignon seemed as confident in an interview as she did on the track and the podium, even being recommended by her coaches and communications liaison.
With the return journey looming ever nearer, Davignon had a message to share with her family back home.
“I’d just like to say, to my sister and my mother, that I love them, and that I’m doing well.”
